“When young people stand up with great purpose, a new age begins.” These words of international peace activist Daisaku Ikeda reflect the importance of student members to our organization. PsySR is not just for professionals; it’s for college students who have an important role to play in tackling the issues that we address. There are several ways for students to get involved in PsySR--by becoming a member, by working for PsySR as an intern, and by starting a PsySR student chapter at your university.
Reasons To Join PsySR
Becoming a member of PsySR provides opportunities for you to become actively involved in promoting peace and social justice within your communities. It structures ways for you to serve your community, uphold social justice, and network with social activists/mentors to create more peace in the world. At the same time, you will have opportunities to develop leadership skills and build your professional portfolio through participation in conferences activities. To join PsySR, please complete our Membership Form HERE.
Internship Opportunities in the National PsySR Network
Exciting internships are available for peace-oriented undergraduate and graduate students in psychology and other disciplines. Interns gain first-hand supervised experience working with psychologists and other social activists in applying psychology to solve real world problems. Internships are beneficial for advanced psychology education and for your career. Not only do internships make you a more viable applicant for graduate training, they are one of the best ways to enhance your employability. More information about PsySR Internships is available HERE.
Start a Student Chapter of PsySR
Student chapters of PsySR are a great opportunity to foster learning, dialogue, and positive action. There are an endless number of creative, stimulating ways for students to achieve these goals, ranging from seminars, trips, film festivals, debates, peace-building workshops, fundraisers, and co-sponsorships with other student organizations, university departments, and peace- and psychology-related community organizations. Please see the PsySSR Starter Kit for complete information. A downloadable trifold brochure about Student Chapters is available for distribution HERE, and Student Chapter Guidelines are also described HERE.
The University of the District Columbia (UDC): PsySSR's Charter Chapter
PsySR's goal is to establish student chapters across the country. The first PsySSR chapter, the University of the District of Columbia, represents an excellent model. More information about the UDC chapter is available HERE.
